Scott Derrickson Set To Direct Hyperion

Director Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Paradise Lost) is set to take on "Hyperion Cantos" for Warner Bros. and GK Films. Derrickson joins a project that will merge two Dan Simmons sci-fi novels -- "Hyperion" and "The Fall of Hyperion" -- and bring them into one film being scripted by Trevor Sands.

  1. Don't see how one movie could do these two masterpieces justice... even a 2.5hr movie would only leave about 20 min for each of the pilgrim's tales... if the movie were only made for for the FIRST book. Father Dure's story alone would make a blockbuster film!!!

  2. Yeah, this should really be an HBO miniseries if you want to do it properly

  3. So.... what's the status on this movie? I see this was posted over 2 years ago. I haven't heard ANYTHING about a release. I have to agree with the earlier comment. This will be be a disaster if made as a single movie. Hell, all movies look for a sequel. The sequel is built-in in this case. Do a movie about Hyperion - 2.5 hours. It will be a huge hit if done right. "Fall" is the first sequel, paving the way for "Endymion" and "Rise". Otherwise, leave it alone as the SciFi classic series that it is. Don't pull a "Dune" on us.
